How Caribbean Hold'Em is dealt
If you know Texas Hold'em from home games, the cards will feel familiar. The betting won't: there is no pot, no other player to outlast and no bluffing, only your hand set against the dealer's.
- Ante, plus the coin if you want it. Place your ante within R1–R100 for the round. The progressive coin is a separate, optional extra.
- Two hole cards each. You see your own two cards. The dealer's pair stays face down until the end.
- The board starts to fill. Community cards go to the middle of the felt. They belong to both hands equally.
- Call or fold. At the decision point you either fold, giving up the ante, or call with a further bet to see the round through. The help panel shows the size of the call and how much of the board you see before you choose.
- Showdown. The rest of the board is dealt and the dealer's cards are turned. If the dealer qualifies, each side's best five cards from seven are compared.
Springbok doesn't publish the main-game paytable for this table, meaning what the ante and the call return in each outcome. Open it in the game before your first real-money hand.
The dealer's qualifying hand in Caribbean Hold'Em
The dealer needs a pair of 4s or better, built from the two hole cards and the shared board. Any pair of that rank or higher qualifies, and so does every stronger hand: two pair, trips, a straight and everything above.
When the dealer falls short, the round isn't settled by a straight comparison of hands; it follows the no-qualify terms in the game's paytable. Read that part of the help panel once, so a payout never catches you off guard.
Stud
The dealer qualifies with Ace-King from five cards and no community cards. Caribbean Stud rules
Draw
The dealer needs a pair of 8s, and you get to swap cards first. Caribbean Draw rules
Hold'Em
The dealer needs a pair of 4s but has seven cards to find it in.
A low bar sounds generous until you remember the dealer is choosing from seven cards, where a pair turns up easily. Compare the three tables on their house edges, not on the qualifier alone.
Caribbean Hold'Em payouts and the progressive coin
The only payouts Springbok publishes for this table belong to the coin. It is a side bet on your own hand, linked to a progressive shared with Caribbean Stud and Caribbean Draw, and the dealer's cards play no part in it.
| Bet or hand | Pays |
|---|---|
| Royal flush (progressive coin) | wins the jackpot |
| Straight flush (progressive coin) | 10% of the jackpot |
| Four of a kind (progressive coin) | R500 |
| Full house (progressive coin) | R100 |
| Flush (progressive coin) | R75 |
| Most one round can pay | R400,000 |

- The top two lines depend on the live jackpot: the whole of it for a royal flush, 10% of it for a straight flush. The total is displayed at the table and changes all the time, so this guide doesn't quote it.
- Further down the list the prizes are flat rand sums (R500 for quads, R100 for a full house, R75 for a flush) whatever the size of your ante.
- Springbok caps the most any single round can pay at R400,000.
- Hold'Em gives you seven cards to make five from. Check in the help panel exactly which cards the coin looks at, because a coin hand and your final showdown hand are not always the same thing.
The coin's price per round isn't among Springbok's published figures, and neither is its own house edge. Both are reasons to treat it as a deliberate extra, not a default.
Caribbean Hold'Em house edge
| Bet | House edge |
|---|---|
| Caribbean Hold'em | 2.16% |
Springbok's figure for Caribbean Hold'Em is 2.16%. Across a long run of rounds, that is roughly the share of every rand staked that the table keeps for the house; any single evening can land well above or below it.
By the standards of Springbok's lobby it is a low number. Only blackjack played to basic strategy (0.65%) and the two main baccarat bets (Banker 1.06%, Player 1.24%) come in lower, and the low bet at Akbar Romeo Walter carries the same figure.
Two cautions. Springbok gives one number for the game without separating the ante and call from the coin. And a low edge is still a cost: it slows down how much you can expect to lose over time, it doesn't tilt the game your way. The full comparison is in the Springbok house-edge guide.
Caribbean Hold'Em vs Texas Hold'em
The names overlap; the games don't. This is what changes when you move from a poker evening with friends to Springbok's table:
| Point | Caribbean Hold'Em at Springbok | Texas Hold'em between players |
|---|---|---|
| Who you play | The dealer only | Everyone else at the table |
| Where winnings come from | The house, at the rates in its paytable | A pot built from the players' bets |
| Bluffing | No use: the dealer's play is fixed by the rules | Part of the game |
| Your choices | Ante, the optional coin, then call or fold | Several betting rounds: check, bet, raise or fold |
| Built-in cost | The house edge, 2.16% on Springbok's figure | The card room's cut, where there is one |
| Stakes | R1–R100 a round | Whatever the game agrees |
Texas Hold'em itself is one of the names on older Springbok pages that isn't in today's lobby; see Springbok table games no longer in the lobby for the full list.
Mistakes to avoid at Caribbean Hold'Em
- Playing it like a poker night. The dealer never folds and never bluffs, so betting to push the dealer out of a hand does nothing. Only the strength of the cards counts.
- Forgetting the board is shared. A pair or three suited cards sitting in the middle help the dealer as much as you. What matters is how your two hole cards improve on the board.
- Expecting a live table. Every Springbok table is a software game. The lobby's Live Dealer menu listed no games when this guide checked it on 9 October 2026.
- Adding the coin without pricing it. It is a fresh stake on every hand. Springbok publishes what it pays, not what it costs or what it keeps.
- Betting on a bonus balance. Table rounds don't count toward Springbok's wagering, and staking excluded games mid-wagering can void the bonus. The R100 per-bet cap while a bonus runs adds a second trap.
- Chasing a bad run. Lifting your ante after losses doesn't change the edge. It only spends your budget faster.
