Teen Patti online casino South Africa: Springbok's rules

Teen Patti at Springbok is a three-card contest between two hands: you back Player A or Player B, and a winning main bet pays 0.95:1. A tie hands your stake back. Two optional side bets, Pair Plus and the 3+3 Bonus, pay up to 100:1 and 1000:1.

The table sign reads R1.00 to R400.00 a round, while Springbok's launch article gives R2 as the minimum. Teen Patti does not count toward bonus wagering, so bring a plain deposit, not a coupon.

How Teen Patti works at Springbok

"Teen patti" is Hindi for "three cards", and the casino version keeps the idea simple. You are not dealt a hand of your own. Two hands are dealt, Player A and Player B, and you predict which one will be stronger. Springbok's game uses a single 52-card deck, shuffled before every game.

  1. Pick a side. Put your main bet on Player A or Player B. Once one is chosen, the other main-bet area is switched off for that round, so you cannot back both hands.
  2. Add side bets if you want them. Pair Plus A, Pair Plus B and the 3+3 Bonus only open once a main bet is down.
  3. The deal. Each player receives three cards from the freshly shuffled deck.
  4. Compare the hands. The stronger three-card hand wins the main bet. If the hands are equal, it is a push and the main stake comes back to you.
  5. Settle the side bets. Each one is paid or lost on its own terms, whatever happened to the main bet.

So a side bet can pay on a round where your main bet loses, and the other way round.

Teen Patti hand rankings, highest first

The main bet and Pair Plus use a three-card ranking, and the order is not the one you may know from five-card poker. Springbok's help page lists the hands like this:

Teen Patti three-card hands at Springbok, strongest at the top
HandWhat it looks likeOften called at home
Royal flushAce, King and Queen of one suitTop pure sequence
Straight flushThree cards in sequence, all one suitPure sequence
Three of a kindThree cards of the same rankTrail or set
StraightThree cards in sequence, mixed suitsSequence or run
FlushThree cards of one suit, not in sequenceColour
PairTwo cards of the same rankPair
High cardNo combination at allHigh card

An Ace can play high (Ace-King-Queen) or low (Ace-2-3) in a straight. Two changes from five-card poker matter most: a straight beats a flush, and three of a kind beats a straight.

Home games often treat a trail as the best hand there is; at Springbok the royal flush and every straight flush outrank it. For how two hands of the same type are split, see the game's help page under Sources.

The main bet: Player A or Player B

Both main bets pay 0.95:1: a win returns your stake plus a little less than the same amount again, much like the commission-paying Banker bet in Springbok's baccarat. That shortfall below even money is the house's margin on a contest that is otherwise level, since both hands pay the same and are judged by the same ranking.

A tie is a push: your main stake comes back, and the round costs you nothing on that bet.

Pair Plus and 3+3 Bonus side bets

The bigger numbers live in the side bets. This is the full list from the game's help page, which matches what is printed on the table:

Pair Plus A and Pair Plus B

Pair Plus looks at one player's three cards only. If they make a pair or better, the bet pays, from 1:1 for a pair up to 100:1 for a royal flush. Whether that hand wins the main contest makes no difference. The pays follow the three-card ladder, which is why a straight earns more than a flush on this bet.

3+3 Bonus

The 3+3 Bonus pools both hands. The game takes all six cards on the table, finds the best five-card poker hand among them and pays when it is three of a kind or better: 7:1 at the bottom of the scale, 1000:1 at the top. Because five cards are used, this bet switches to five-card order, with four of a kind and the full house on the list and a flush paying above a straight.

Large multiples belong to rare hands: a pay of 1000:1 reflects how seldom that hand turns up. Springbok publishes no house edge for either side bet, so this guide cannot say which costs less over time.

Teen Patti table limits and the minimum-bet conflict

Sources differ on the minimum

The sign on the table reads R1.00 minimum, R400.00 maximum. Springbok's launch article for the game lists chips of R2, R10, R20, R100 and R200 and calls R2 the minimum bet. Both are Springbok's own sources, so both are printed here.

The article's minimum matches its smallest chip, which may explain the gap; neither source says so, and this guide does not pick a side. Read the sign when the table loads, since that is what the game shows you. Either way, the ceiling is R400.

For comparison, the signs at Andar Bahar and 32 Cards read up to R500.00 and R500.00. The full list of table limits sits in the table index on the home page.

Teen Patti house edge and RTP

Springbok publishes no house edge or RTP for Teen Patti, and neither the help page nor the table states one; Andar Bahar, 32 Cards and European Roulette share that gap. The rules do show where the house earns its margin on the main bet: winners are paid at 0.95:1 rather than even money.

How much that adds up to over many rounds also depends on how often the hands tie, and this guide does not work out edges Springbok has not published. To compare tables by a single number, use the Springbok house-edge guide.

Playing Teen Patti without a bonus

Teen Patti is not on the list in Springbok's Terms and Conditions of games whose bets count toward bonus wagering. Bets here do nothing to clear a bonus, and placing them while one is still being wagered can cost you the bonus and its winnings.

What Springbok's T&Cs say

Bonus wagering counts on 7 Stud Poker, Bingo games, European Slot Poker, Keno, Pai Gow Poker, Scratch Cards and all Slots unless otherwise stated; bets on excluded games before wagering is complete void the bonus and winningsSpringbok T&Cs, 9 Oct 2026.

So come in with a deposit that carries no coupon. If a bonus is still active, settle it first; while wagering runs, each bet is capped at R100. Open Teen Patti at Springbok when you are ready to play for rand.

Teen Patti online from South Africa: what to expect

Springbok keeps Teen Patti in the lobby's Table Games tab, beside the other card tables, and every chip is in rand. It is a software table rather than a studio stream: Springbok's lobby had no live dealer games at all when checked on 9 October 2026. The game deals and reshuffles on its own, so there is no dealer to wait for between rounds.

  • Practice is available. Springbok says logged-out players get a one-off R1,000 practice (fun-money) balance that does not renewOperator claim: Springbok article, 9 Oct 2026. Use it to learn the ranking above until you can read a hand at a glance. For more on fun-money play, see free table games at Springbok.
  • The rules travel with the game. An information button in the game's menu opens its help page, the same page the payouts on this guide come from.

Teen Patti mistakes to avoid

  • Counting a tie as a loss. A tied main bet is returned, so there is nothing to "win back" with a bigger next stake.
  • Reading a streak into A or B. The deck is shuffled before every game, so a run of wins for one player says nothing about the next deal.
  • Loading up side bets to chase the top line. The 1000:1 pay exists because the hand is rare. Keep side bets small next to the main bet, or leave them out.
  • Bringing a live bonus to the table. It cannot be cleared here and it can be voided.

Settle on a stake and a stop time before the first deal; the stake plan for table players on our safer gambling page sets one out step by step.

Questions players ask

What does Teen Patti pay at Springbok?

Player A and Player B both pay 0.95:1, and a tie is a push. Pair Plus pays from 1:1 for a pair, and the 3+3 Bonus from 7:1 for three of a kind; both top out with a royal flush, at 100:1 and 1000:1.

What is the minimum bet on Teen Patti at Springbok?

The table sign says R1.00, with a maximum of R400.00. Springbok's launch article for the game gives R2, its smallest chip, as the minimum. Check the sign when the table opens.

Does a straight beat a flush in Teen Patti?

Yes. In Springbok's three-card ranking a straight sits above a flush, and three of a kind sits above both. The 3+3 Bonus is the exception, because it builds a five-card hand and uses five-card poker order.

What is the house edge on Teen Patti?

Springbok does not publish one, and the game's help page does not state a house edge or RTP either.

Is there a live dealer Teen Patti table at Springbok?

No. Springbok's lobby has no live dealer games, so its Teen Patti is a software table that deals and reshuffles by itself.

Can I use a bonus to play Teen Patti?

Not usefully. Teen Patti is not on the T&Cs list of games that count toward wagering, and betting on it before wagering is complete can void the bonus. A deposit with no coupon is the way to play it.
